Roller Bed System

IFCO required a system to speed up and automate the daily washing of four million trays. Initially, they were loading the crates individually onto the system by a forklift truck and washing them manually. This was an unsustainable approach to their process, costing the business a lot of time and money.

Roller Bed System

Due to the increased operation, they needed to speed this process up so their systems could continue to work.

What NES Built

Northern Engineering Services built IFCO a bespoke roller bed and automated washing system. This cut the time spent in the washing process and allowed IFCO to increase the number of crate intakes.

Another benefit of automating the process is that IFCO can better allocate human resources to other parts of the process and company.

Each roller bed system needed to be bespoke designed to fit the different warehouses that the company owns.

Technical Specifications

  • 280 workshop hours per roller bed from fabrication to installation
  • 150m of roller bed
  • Fully automated and pneumatic systems
  • Over 100 rollers per system, over 2000 rollers in total, all machined and fabricated precisely for the job
  • Completed across four US states (Indiana, Texas, Michigan, Pennsylvania)
  • Completed installation across UK cities and towns (Wakefield, Coventry, Warrington, Wellingborough, Nuneaton)

Conclusion

IFCO now has a fully automated washing process on seven sites across the UK and America. The system allows for a quicker washing process and better resource use. The systems can take millions of crates a day to be automatically washed.
